Profiles of Murdoch Physics Graduates

Katrina Lyon BSc Hons Murd.

After working in a science centre for 5 years whilst she completed her degree, Katrina decided to pursue a career in Science Communication. 'Even though I'm not a working scientist, I use the skills that I developed during my physics degree all the time. Also a good understanding of physics helps me to understand complex and technical information and explain it to a variety of audiences'. She is currently working in the in the renewable energy sector where she is involved in the communication and promotion of renewable energy for a cooperative research centre.

Katrina won the title of Young West Australian of the Year 1999 for her efforts in science and technology and the environment. Last night she won the Western Power Science and Technology award for her contributions to raising the awareness of the public, especially youth, about science and technology. Katrina has worked for many years as an explainer at the Scitech Discovery Centre in Perth. She also runs a radio show called "Transcience" which aims to raise public interest in science through RTR-FM radio in Perth.
